Day 3: The After Smash Disaster

I'm pretty disappointed right now. My phone freaked out and deleted all my contacts, notes, and pictures. Don't really understand the IT side of it enough to fix it safely, apparently, and something got corrupted.

Last night at around 10:30 my phone randomly went into a permanent restart. It was terrible timing too, cause I had the car and Tayla was getting off work in half an hour. Luckily, I remembered her phone number because I had teammates in highschool who found it out and made fun of me by reciting it.

Annoying bastards stole my phone. Maybe while they were carrying me holy shit lol

I want to give a huge shoutout to Toggle for helping me out tremendously by contacting my sister and actually navigate back to her. He was an awesome dude, super competent with the stream and a friendly guy. I hope to meet up with him in the future and maybe even collaborate on some smash project. 😉😉😉

We got home safe and sound, but the damage to my mood was done. I felt like I got the wind kicked out of me, honestly. I lost a lot of motivation to post a blog, or really do anything, but then I saw one little sign on the wall in my sister's house:

And it really inspired me. Spoke to me. It said "Don't worry. Everyone faces hardship. What's important is that you could always just get drunk."

I'm actually feeling fine, just not particularly in the mood to explore or party today. I got my hammock, the nice weather, and a glass of wine. What's a vacation without days like this, right?

I call this the candid selfie

Let's rewind. The day started off away from home, as we were recovering from all the drinking the night before. I woke us all up by making steak we had bought for the barbacue but didn't have the balls to cook. Steak and eggs is probably the best breakfast on the planet, up there with coffee and coffee, or vodka and ice.

Comes free with every order of Coffee and Coffee

Bought some touristy gifts and took a ton of pictures. I saw a dude making tiki wooden things that looked really cool and above my price range. I asked him if I could get a picture and he gave me the biggest smile. It's a shame that the picture was deleted, never to be seen again, his face resigned to obscurity, his name forgotten forever.

How I feel right now. You get it or you're old.

After getting sushi and realizing that it wasn't actually Hawaiian food, and Jamba juice which is like America's takeover of Hawaii embodied in a store, my sister and I parted. I had an 8 hour shift to kill, and wouldn't you know, there was a smash tournament less than a mile away. Sick.

I arrived early and killed time by ordering a subway sandwich. They only had flatbread, which I found funny for some reason. The employees were apologetic and exasperated, which was weird because they had all day to get over it.

Then people started showing up, so I could finally play and get warmed up. I had a good time getting to play with the people and shit on a few for an hour. The tournament started and, what do you know, round 1 and 2 were my friendlies partners from 10 minutes ago. Out of 32 entrants, the odds of that are actually really low.

Sorry boys, daddy's on vacation

Disclaimer: Smash talk incoming
I played well all tournament, which is really cool because I had one opportunity to represent myself and I feel like I did that. I lost a super close set to Zipper in winners semis but he played really well and It was wicked fun. I got the runback in losers finals with a 3-0 with 3 tight games. He really earned the SD tag in game 1 though.

Grand finals was a blast too, and I'm happy to brag that I took their number 1 to game 5. He had three characters of relative equal skill that had a good mix of tech skill and game awareness. Togg| FireflyHI was a blast to play against. Till next time dude!

Every set was fun to watch. I got to hop on commentary for bunch of matches too. Check out the stream at twitch.tv/hawaiissbm

Smash talk over.

Immediately afterwards my phone committed seppuku, but luckily Toggle was there to take me home and I could at least enjoy a meal at Zippers, a Denny-esque restaurant apparently everywhere on the island. Mixed plate. Chili, rice, and this mac salad that blew my mind. Couldn't tell you what the meat portion was called but it was definitely fried chicken and a burger patty... except slightly more tropical, I guess. Regardless of vague differences, it was absolutely delicious, making it's Mark as definitely not comparable to Denny's. You go, Hawaii.

After my wine I expect to make my way back to civilization. I gotta get some pictures! Thanks to all the people who are bored enough to read these, I hope you like them. Till tomorrow!
