Days 5 and 6: What Time is it I'm Freaking Out
So I didn't have time to update this blog cause we travelled early and I was hungover the entire 10 hour flight. I'm feeling good now in my Sydney hotel, so it's time to recap everything.
Sunday was a chill day, woke up around 10 and had some breakfast. We had people heading over at 12, so Tayla and I headed to Target to grab food, beer, and games. I got a 12 pack of Redds because im an adult who can drink whatever I want and Tayla got a badminton set with high hopes.
Every case of Redd's comes with a free case of your friends calling you a woman
Taylas friends come over and the food starts rolling. Wait, no, did I say food? I meant alcohol. We started drinking a lot. And did I say friends? I meant one friend and her roommate. Four of us started drinking. I as much I hate the stereotype that Redd's are for women, I have to admit that I definitely turn into a middle aged woman when I drink them. I wasnt drunk as much as I was saucy and menopausal. It was a good time.
Cheese and jam solidifies my 50 year old woman persona
After more drinking other friends arrived and it was a proper party. We had some good dip while the food cooked, played some KanJam, explained why smash bros is cool again. You know, typical party stuff.
Great when I ate it but it's still attacking my insides I think
It's interesting, there were some funny things I remember from that day but nothing, like, story worthy. One of Taylas friends had never played KanJam before, then slotted on his first shot, winning the game. The badminton set was missing a piece so Tayla had me return it and get another (pre-beer). When I got back we found out that the first set wasn't actually missing anything and she just didn't see the piece. Nobody used the net all day, either. Lastly, all the food went bad after 1 serving because bugs ate them. Its was good while it lasted, though!
I took 5 pictures and this was the best one what's wrong with me
I think the highlight of the night was around sunset when we made our way to the beach near Taylas house. The sun was going down, it wasn't crowded, the only sounds were waves. I stood on the edge of the water and stared out for ten minutes or so, in what I could only assume was a state of deep thought. It's too bad that I remember nothing of that little experience, but I'm pretty sure everything going through my head was profound.
Dats purty wOw
I assume I got home safely because next thing I remember im hugging the toilet pleading with God himself to not let me vomit. He spares me and I'm able to go to sleep without needing to brush my teeth three times. A true miracle.
We left the next morning at around 6ish for the airport. We were driven by a lovely lyft employee who had to call his 13 year old son to wake him up for summer school. He was moaning and complaining on the phone and the dad was being such a an annoying ass about it I loved it.
There's nothing too interesting about the flight, but I did see this AMAZING deal in the airport.
Opportunity of a lifetime
As well as a pic perfectly describing our mood.
I've never found a better picture to describe 4/10
On the plane I had the great pleasure of watching the Lego Batman Movie And the Ben Buttons movie. I know I know, they're pretty much the same thing, but if you know me and movies you know I have a type. Luckily I escaped the grasp of blockbuster film to get a sweet picture of the city flying in
Feat. Six different Instagram filters
We touched down, found the hotel, then headed to the most touristy spot possible: The Sydney Opra House. It was awesome, there were people speaking all different languages and saw lots of people from all over Asia. Not trying to make any kind of statement, but Asian tourism is huge here.
We wanted to fit in
We didn't really know what to do, so we walked around looking for other people taking pictures. That's where the good photos were, we decided.
Real cameras are the best indication that something's up
I'm also proud to say we stopped fighting long enough to snag a pic of the bridge at sunset.
Behind her back I taped a sign saying "Kick me, I'm American"
We walked around the bay for about half an hour. There were signs for this thing called "Vivid Sydney" everywhere that we didn't really understand. We heard it was something to do with lights but we weren't sure. Then, we found out...
Before
VIVID SYDNEY IN THE HOUSSSEEE
It was insane. At 6pm lights went up all around the city at once, it felt like I was in a Disney movie Tayla took like a 2 minute snap story of the whole thing while I just took it in. 50+ attractions with lights, music, and nature we all throughout the city. We'll be back on Saturday, so I'll be sure to post all the pictures then.
About an hour into exploring Tayla decided she wanted a little drinkaroo. I still felt a little under the weather so I declined. She wound up buying a bottle of cheap wine from her new favorite store, Mr Liquor. After that we found a nice outdoor bar with live music and sat down to watch. I caved and bought a nine dollar beer, then went back to our seat excited to listen to music with an awesome view of the Opra house. Before I could take a picture, a security guard kicked us out because Tayla brought in outside wine. Damnit.
I prefer his brother, Dr. Drug
It wasn't a complete wash, though. We explored some more and found a big outdoor area with a bunch of drink and food vendors. In the corner were heat lamps and BEAN BAG CHAIRS. We stayed there until it started raining a half hour later. We were tired anyway, so we hailed a cap and headed back to the hotel for the night.
Oh god that's the same faces as earlier we gotta change something going forward
There, all caught up. We got to bed around 9:30 local time and had a good night's rest so everything should be a-ok from now on. Can't wait to see what the rest of Australia has in store for us!
